Using a password creates a barrier between you and whoever is trying to access your information. By setting a strong password that you change periodically, you are protecting yourself and your data more effectively.

Please note passwords must be a minimum of 12 characters, and contain at least three of the four different character types (upper case, lower case, numbers, supported symbols are '-!"#$%&()*,./:;?@[]^_{|}~+<=> ). It cannot be a password you've used before.

We recommend using Multi-Factor Authentication to further protect you and your data. If you have this enabled, you will not be subject to regular password changes, as this adds additional security to your account.

Key things to remember

  • Do not share your password with anyone. The ICT Service Desk will never ask for your password when you speak with them.
  • We recommend that three random words should be used to create your password.
  • If you ever feel as though your password has been compromised, change your password immediately.
  • Do not recyle your password.
  • Password generators can be incredibly useful. They work by providing you a completely random password that will be near impossible to guess. ICT recommends using the Norton Identity Safe password generator

We recommend that all staff read College's code of practice about passwords: Code of Practice 4 - Account Security Management.
